How to create realistic strings using midi notes.
Ever wondered how to get a more convincing, realistic feel from your midi notes when creating strings?
Producer Nick Murray shares some tips and tricks he uses to produce a better sound.
One thing to note is that although this tutorial was done using Logic 9 the principles will work in any DAW that allows you to make adjustments to the midi velocity, modulation etc.
You can also apply similar techniques to brass, woodwinds and vocal instruments to create swells and enhance realism. adding some reverb to the track will also help to “glue” the music together and make it sound less mechanical.
Can you get complete realism? Probably not since samples are different to live recordings – but you can get close enough so that to the untrained listener the results will be convincing enough to be passed as the real thing.
